As the holiday season nears, we are preparing for this year’s Heroes & Helpers event! This event has been known in the past as “Shop with a Cop,” as members of Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) have been honored to assist children who have been exposed to abuse and neglect in holiday shopping (see photos from last year’s event above). Last December, nearly 50 children were able to “shop with a cop” to purchase gifts for the holidays.

This December, our assisting first responders will include members of KPD, Kaua’i Fire Department (KFD), and Ocean Safety Bureau (OSB). With a gift card in tow, these community heroes will partner up with keiki who have experienced abuse and neglect to help them shop for holiday gifts for the keiki and their loved ones. We have found that providing this type of experience between children and our first responders has been invaluable for children to form positive relationships and new memories with emergency professionals.

Heroes & Helpers will be held at Target at Kukui Grove Center on Wednesday, December 6th. Participating keiki must be registered; details for registration will be released soon!
